Let's talk about what's swimming out there waiting for you. Cape Cod's waters are teeming with some real heavyweight contenders, and we're here to help you land 'em.
Striped Bass: The crown jewel of Cape Cod fishing, stripers are the fish that dreams are made of. These bad boys can grow over 50 pounds, and they put up a fight that'll test your skills and make your arms burn (in the best way possible). Spring and fall are prime time for trophy stripers, but the action can be hot all summer long. There's nothing quite like the rush of a big striper smashing your lure and peeling line off your reel.
Scup: Don't let their size fool you - these tasty little panfish are a blast to catch and even better on the dinner table. Also known as porgy, scup start showing up in late spring and stick around through the fall. They're perfect for getting kids or newcomers hooked on fishing, and they're always eager to bite. Plus, their flaky white meat is hard to beat for a fresh fish fry.
Tautog: If you're looking for a challenge, tautog (or blackfish) are your ticket. These structure-loving fish have teeth like a sheep and the attitude of a bulldog. They love to hang around rocks and wrecks, which means precision casting and quick reflexes are key. The fight is intense, and the reward is some of the best-tasting fish you'll ever sink your teeth into. Fall is prime time for tog, but we can find them all summer long.
Black Sea Bass: These aggressive predators are a favorite among our clients. With their striking blue-black color and white spots, they're as beautiful as they are delicious. Sea bass season typically runs from May to December, with the biggest fish showing up in the cooler months. They'll hit just about any bait or lure, and when you hook into a big one, be ready for some serious pulling power.
It's not just about the fish - though that's a big part of it. Our trips are about creating memories, learning new skills, and experiencing the raw beauty of Cape Cod from the water. Maybe you'll see a pod of dolphins playing in our wake, or catch a glimpse of a whale breaching in the distance. The stories you'll take home are worth their weight in gold (or should we say, in striped bass?).
Our captains aren't just experts at finding fish; they're passionate about sharing their love for the ocean and its inhabitants. You'll leave with a deeper appreciation for marine life and the eco-system that supports it. And let's not forget the bragging rights - there's nothing like showing off pictures of your monster catch to friends and family.
Listen, the fish are out there right now, getting bigger by the day. Why let someone else catch your personal best? Whether you're looking to fill the freezer, learn some new techniques, or just have a great day on the water with friends and family, Cape Cod Charter Guys has got you covered.
Don't wait until the bite turns off or the calendar fills up. Give us a call, book your trip, and get ready for some of the best fishing Cape Cod has to offer. We'll take care of everything else - all you need to do is show up ready to have a good time and maybe set a new personal record. Trust us, once you fish with us, you'll be hooked for life. See you on the water!

Our second trip with Capt Ross and JJ this season - they put us over LOTS of big fish eager to hammer the lures, all of us had a great time and the youngsters especially left with huge smiles! We had 6 on board ranging from total novices to 50-year fishing veterans. We learned a lot about fish ecology and behavior and how to fish as well. What a smooth fast boat, and all the gear is top-notch. JJ is magic with his handling of the fish you want to keep and your catch will get home in tip-top shape. Can't wait to go again!

We had an amazing morning out on the water off PTown with Capt Ross and his terrific son, JJ. Caught our limit of strippers within 20 minutes and they went above and beyond to make sure we got them all in the boat and then filleted them to perfection. Two very positive and engaged professionals. We had ceviche and fish tacos for lunch once we got off the state of the art one of a kind boat. Exceeded our expectation and we will be back soon. Life is short, go with the best on the Cape!

Captain Ross is the best! In foul weather and windy conditions he still had us on fish all day. He taught us a lot of invaluable techniques for getting them in the boat as well. Caught our first Albie which was amazing! Impeccable conditions on the brand new boat. Highly recommend and will definitely be back on the water with him again.

Black sea bass are a blast to catch and even better to eat. These bruisers average 2-4 pounds but can top 8. Look for them around structure like wrecks, reefs, and rocky bottoms. Late spring through summer is prime time as they move inshore to spawn. Sea bass hit hard and put up a scrappy fight on light tackle. They're aggressive feeders, so jigs, plugs, and live bait all work well. For a real treat, try jigging metal lures near the bottom - the strikes are explosive. Here's an insider tip: the biggest males, with their distinctive blue humps, hang in deeper water. So if you're after a trophy, head a bit further offshore. Whether you're filling the cooler or just enjoying the action, sea bass are always a fun target.
Scup, also called porgy, are fun little battlers that'll keep your rod bent all day. These silver-sided fish average 1-2 pounds but can reach up to 4. You'll find 'em hanging around rocky bottoms and pilings from May through October. Scup are bottom feeders, so drop your bait to the seafloor and jig it slowly. They've got small mouths but strong jaws to crush shells, so use smaller hooks. While not huge fighters, scup are great eating and perfect for introducing kids to saltwater fishing. For best results, use squid strips or sea worms on a two-hook bottom rig. When you feel that telltale tap-tap-tap, set the hook quick - these guys are pros at stealing bait.
Striped bass are a prized catch here on Cape Cod. These powerful fish typically range from 20-40 pounds, though trophy-sized 50+ pounders aren't unheard of. Look for stripers around structure like reefs, sandbars, and jetties. They love moving water, so tidal rips and river mouths are prime spots. Spring and fall offer the best action as the bass migrate. Anglers love targeting stripers for their strong fights and excellent table fare. To up your odds, try live eels at night - stripers can't resist 'em. Just be ready for some arm-straining battles when you hook into one of these bruisers. Whether you're casting plugs from shore or trolling the rips, landing a big striper is always a thrill.
Tautog, or blackfish, are the bulldogs of the sea. These stocky fish love structure, so we target them around rocky areas and wrecks. Most run 2-6 pounds, but 10+ pounders aren't uncommon. Tautog fishing heats up in spring and fall when water temps are in the 50s and 60s. They're not speedsters, but man can they pull - expect some serious tugs of war. Tog have powerful jaws for crushing crabs and shellfish, their favorite foods. That's why we use green crabs or Asian crabs for bait. Here's a pro tip: crush the crab before sending it down. That scent drives tautog wild. Be ready to set the hook fast and crank hard to pull 'em away from the rocks. The fight and tasty white meat make tog a favorite for many anglers.
