Black Sea Bass: These bruisers are the stars of the show, and for good reason. Known for their aggressive strikes and stubborn fights, black sea bass will give you a run for your money. They typically range from 1 to 5 pounds, but don't be surprised if you hook into an 8-pounder – they're out there! These fish love structure, so we'll be targeting rocky bottoms and wrecks where they like to hang out. The meat is white, flaky, and absolutely delicious – perfect for a fresh catch dinner.
Tautog (Blackfish): While we're primarily after sea bass, don't be surprised if you hook into a tautog. These buck-toothed bottom-dwellers are notorious bait stealers and put up a heck of a fight for their size. They're masters of structure, often found around rocks and reefs. Tautog fishing requires finesse and patience, but the reward is some of the tastiest fish you'll ever eat.
Scup (Porgy): These pan-sized battlers might not be the biggest fish in the sea, but they're a blast to catch and excellent table fare. Scup travel in schools, so when you find them, it's often non-stop action. They have a light, delicate flavor that's perfect for frying whole or filleting for fish tacos. Don't underestimate these little fighters – they can provide some of the most fun you'll have on the water.
Our 4 to 6-hour charters are designed to give you the full Cape Cod fishing experience. We'll start by cruising out to some of our favorite spots, keeping an eye out for birds and other signs of fish activity. Once we find a promising area, we'll set up and start fishing. Don't worry if you're new to this – our crew will show you the ropes and make sure you're comfortable with the techniques we're using.
As we fish, keep your eyes peeled for other marine life. It's not uncommon to spot seals, dolphins, or even the occasional whale in these waters. And remember, fishing is just part of the experience – you're also here to soak in the beauty of Cape Cod from a whole new perspective.
Folks love our Black Sea Bass charters for more than just the fish. It's about the whole package – the thrill of the catch, the beauty of the Cape, and the chance to learn from some of the best in the business. Our captains have decades of experience on these waters, and they're passionate about sharing their knowledge. Whether you're looking to improve your technique, learn about local marine life, or just have a great time on the water, we've got you covered.
And let's not forget about the fish themselves. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of reeling in your own dinner. Black sea bass are not only fun to catch, but they're also a treat for the taste buds. Many of our guests tell us that the fish they catch with us are the best they've ever tasted – and we're inclined to agree!
This season has been a banner year for black sea bass off Cape Cod. We've been seeing some real bruisers come over the rails, with several fish in the 5 to 7-pound range. The average catch has been running about 2 to 4 pounds – perfect eating size. Remember, after September 1st, sea bass fishing becomes catch and release only, so if you're looking to stock up your freezer, now's the time to book!
We've also been having great luck with tautog and scup as by-catch. These species provide some variety to your day and are excellent eating in their own right. It's not uncommon for our guests to go home with a mixed bag of fish, giving them options for several delicious meals.
Alright, let's cut to the chase – if you're itching to get out on the water and tangle with some hard-fighting, great-tasting fish, it's time to lock in your date. Our Black Sea Bass charters are filling up fast, especially as we get closer to the catch-and-release date. Don't miss your chance to load up on some of the best-eating fish in the Atlantic.
Remember, we provide all the gear, the know-how, and the hot spots. All you need to bring is your sense of adventure (and maybe a cooler for your catch). Whether you're a seasoned angler or a first-timer, we guarantee a day on the water you won't forget. So what are you waiting for? Give us a call, book your trip, and get ready for some serious rod-bending action. The fish are biting, and your next great Cape Cod fishing story is waiting to be written!

There were 4 of us on this charter and Captain Ross and his first mate took great care of us. We didn't catch any keepers, and not many fish, but I don't believe it was from lack of trying! He is very knowledgeable and wants to make sure you have an excellent experience while on his boat.

Black sea bass are one of our most popular targets here off Cape Cod. These chunky, aggressive fish typically run 1-4 pounds, but trophy-sized 8-pounders aren't unheard of. You'll find them around reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottom in 30-120 feet of water from late spring through fall. They hit hard and fight all the way up, often trying to dive back to structure. Anglers love them for their tenacious fight and outstanding flavor on the table. To get into sea bass, anchor up over structure and drop down squid strips or live bait on a simple bottom rig. A medium-weight spinning outfit with 20-30 lb braid works great. One local trick: if you're not getting bites, try reeling up a few feet. Sometimes they suspend a bit off the bottom. Remember, after September 1st it's catch-and-release only, so get out there this summer for some of the best sea bass action of the year.
Scup, or porgies, are feisty little battlers that school up in our waters from May to October. Most run 8-12 inches and a pound or two, but the big ones can hit 18 inches and 4 pounds. You'll find them near shore around rocky areas, pilings, and wrecks in 20-60 feet of water. They're bottom feeders, crushing small shellfish and crustaceans with their powerful jaws. June and July are usually hot for scup fishing. Folks love catching them for their scrappy fight and excellent table fare. To get into a mess of scup, try drifting or anchoring over structure and sending down a high-low rig baited with squid strips or sea worms. Keep your line tight and be ready for their quick, sharp bites. A light spinning outfit with 10-14 lb test does the trick. It's not uncommon to catch dozens in a day when you find a good school.
Tautog, also called blackfish, are tough customers. These wrasse relatives hang out around rocky structures and reefs, using their strong teeth to crush shellfish. Most run 1-3 pounds but can reach nearly 30. They're not speedsters, but put up a stubborn fight. Look for tautog in depths of 20-50 feet near jetties, wrecks, and boulder fields. Late spring through fall is prime time, with the bite peaking in June and July. Anglers love targeting tautog for their tasty white meat and the challenge of extracting them from their rocky lairs. A sensitive rod tip helps detect their subtle bites. My go-to rig is a single hook baited with green crab – just remember to swap it out every 5 minutes to keep it fresh and enticing. Tautog fishing takes patience, but landing a big one is deeply satisfying.
